Agents

An agent is someone that you authorise and appoint for the purpose of filing specified documents on your behalf. You may either appoint an agent indefinitely, or for a fixed period.

Types of agents

  • Individual Agents - where a person is appointed to act on behalf of another person or a company
  • Agencies - where a company or firm/partnership is appointed to act on behalf of a person or company

How are agents appointed?

Agents are appointed by their client as follows:

Where the client is a person

  • Login to CROS using the individual role
  • Select “My Account”, click “Agent”
  • Enter the name and PIN of the agent, that is, for an:
    • Individual Agent, enter the surname and Account PIN
    • Agency (company) – company name and Company PIN
    • Agency (firm/partnership) – business name and Business PIN
  • Select the length of time they are to be appointed, if applicable. (You may either appoint an agent indefinitely, or for a fixed period, by selecting from the Expiry Days field)
  • Click save

Where the client is a company

  • Login to CROS using the individual role
  • Select “My Company”, click “Agent”
  • Enter the name and PIN of the agent, that is, for an:
    • Depending on the type of agent you should enter the:
      • surname and Account PIN (Individual Agent)
      • company name and Company PIN (Company Agency )
      • business name and Business PIN ( Firm/Partnership Agency)
  • Select the length of time they are to be appointed, if applicable. (You may either appoint an agent indefinitely, or for a fixed period, by selecting from the Expiry Days field)
  • Click save

How do agents transact business on behalf of clients?

Once appointed, the agent is able to conduct transactions on behalf of their client as follows:

Individual Agents

The individual agent has access to the ‘Individual Agent Role’ and will be able to login to submit transactions on behalf of their client(s).

Agencies

The agency must designate the persons who will be logging in to transact business on behalf of the client(s). These persons are known as “Agency Employees”.

How to Indicate Agency Employees:
  • Login to CROS using the director or secretary role
  • Select “My Company”, click “Employees”
  • Enter the surname and PIN of the person(s) being added as an employee
  • Click save

Once the Agency Employees have been added, they will have access to the ‘Agency Employee Role’ and be able to login to submit transactions on behalf of the clients of the agency.

Removal of an agent

Agents may be removed at any time by the client.

How to know if work is being completed, and by whom

Each CRA role has a Transaction listing which records all applications submitted when using the role, or on your behalf. To view the information of a transaction, click on the transaction and a window will appear.

Payment for transactions – whose account is deducted

Payments are deducted from the agent’s account balance.

  • Individual agent
    • the payment is deducted from the account balance of the person appointed as agent
  • Agency
    • The payment is deducted from the account balance of:
      • the company appointed as agency
      • the firm/partnership appointed as agency
